05/05 Mumbai plates & north-west Indian · East Street, Bedminster
Bombil
From Bombay to Bristol.
The restaurant
Bombil is named for the fish Bombay duck, which is not a duck, and that tells you most of what you need to know about the tone of the place.
The cooking is Mumbai and the north-west coast: sharp, salty, sour, fried, fast. Spicy street plates to start, then the slower traditional dishes that the city's home kitchens are actually built on.
The newest room in the group, on East Street in Bedminster, and by some distance the most fun.
Named for a fish that is not a duck.
